Android Central weekly photo contest winner: The great outdoors

Justadye4

Congrats to Justadye4, who won this weeks photo contest with his perfect composition of a budding pine in Boulder taken with the EVO 4G. The depth of field and focal effects are gorgeous. Thanks for entering, and keep an eye on your inbox for info about your prize.

This week was the hardest photo contest to judge yet. I'm pleased to say that almost every single entry was pulled out and considered for the winner. I don't know if it was the subject, or random luck, or just that you guys are so damn good with your cameras, but the quality of this weeks entries just floored us. Have a look through the contest thread and see for yourself. We tried to pull a few out that deserve a special nod (see those after the break), but each and every entry was special. The best part? We'll be back next week to do it all over again. Keep those lenses clean folks!

UFC on Fox 3 will answer these five questions

UFC returns to network television for the third time on Saturday with four bouts on Fox and six on Fuel TV. What questions will be answered when the fights are over?

1. Is Johny Hendricks ready for the big time? Since losing to Rick Story in 2010, Hendricks has been on a tear. He won three straight fights, including a 12-second knockout of Jon Fitch. His last test before being promised a title shot is Josh Koscheck, a one-time welterweight contender who has equally impressive wrestling credentials.

2. Does Nate Diaz deserve a title shot? UFC president Dana White says with a win over Jim Miller, yes. Diaz won his last two fights, but lost the two before that. The lightweight belt is being contested in August and Anthony Pettis is waiting in the wings. Even with a win, Diaz may have some time on his hands before fighting for UFC gold.

3. Is Josh Koscheck over the hill? Koscheck is 34. Hendricks is 28. That age difference means it's easy to look at the fight as old fogie vs. young buck, but Koscheck took offense, calling any media who pointed out the gap between their ages "retards." If he wants to prove he's not an old man, he needs to give a better showing in the cage against Hendricks than he did against Mike Pierce in February, when he barely won a split decision.

4. Will Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson last more than a minute? This bout kicks off the month of the heavyweight, and it promises to be the perfect way to start a May that will feature the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix finals and UFC 146's all heavyweight main card. Barry and Johnson have 20 knockout wins between them. Chances are that number will be 21 by the time the bout is over.

5. How do the latest crop of "The Ultimate Fighter" products stand up? The preliminary card, airing on Fuel TV and Fox Deportes, is full of TUF castmembers from the past few seasons. John Dodson, Louis Gaudinot and Dennis Bermudez are getting their first shots at fights outside of the TUF finale, and this is their chance to show they're more than just good TV.

President Obama to mark anniversary of Bin Laden's death

He's responded forcefully to Republican claims that it is a "celebration", criticizing Romney for statements from the 2008 campaign.

President Barack Obama gave a steely defense of his handling of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden and his use of it to burnish his re-election credentials a year later, saying Monday that it is appropriate to mark an anniversary that Republicans charge is being turned into a campaign bumper sticker.

He then jumped at the chance to portray presumed Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney as unprepared to make the kind of hard call required to send U.S. forces on that highly risky mission. Without mentioning Romney by name, Obama recommended looking at people's previous statements on the manhunt for the 9/11 mastermind.

Obama's re-election team has seized on a quote from Romney in 2007, when he said it was not worth moving heaven and earth to go after one person. On Monday, Romney said he "of course" would have ordered bin Laden killed, but his campaign criticized Obama for turning the successful death raid to political gain.

"I assume that people meant what they said when they said it," Obama said at a White House news conference. "That's been at least my practice. I said that I'd go after bin Laden if we had a clear shot at him, and I did. If there are others who have said one thing and now suggest they'd do something else, then I'd go ahead and let them explain it."

Obama is using the May 2 anniversary to help maximize a political narrative that portrays him as bold and decisive. Romney has sought to cast Obama as weak and too quick to compromise on other foreign policy matters, including Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Obama and his national security team will be featured in an NBC prime-time special Wednesday night that reconstructs the operation from inside the White House Situation Room. White House counterterrorism chief John Brennan discussed Obama's command of the raid on a Sunday talk show and in a speech Monday.

"The death of bin Laden was our most strategic blow yet against al-Qaida," Brennan said at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington.

Credit goes to the special forces who carried out the raid and the intelligence experts who led them to the hideout, Brennan said, "and to President Obama, who gave the order to go in."

Bin Laden was killed in Pakistan by U.S. Navy SEALs. The terror leader was living in a compound outside the capital of Islamabad, having evaded capture for nearly 10 years.

Obama sent in the U.S. forces with no assurance that bin Laden was at the site, leading to a heart-pounding scene in the Situation Room that was captured in one of the most famous photos of Obama's presidency.

"It's unfortunate that President Obama would prefer to use what was a good day for all Americans as a cheap political ploy and an opportunity to distort Gov. Romney's strong policies on the war on terror," Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said Monday. "President Obama's feckless foreign policy has emboldened our adversaries, weakened our allies, and threatens to break faith with our military."

Romney was scheduled to appear Tuesday in New York City with firefighters and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani to help mark Wednesday's anniversary of bin Laden's death.

"I hardly think you've seen any excessive celebration taking place here," Obama said at the news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. His voice was taut and his smile thin.

"I think that people, the American people, rightly remember what we as a country accomplished in bringing to justice somebody who killed over 3,000 of our citizens."

In 2007, Romney told The Associated Press that it was not worth "moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person."

In a debate days later, he clarified the remark: "We'll move everything to get him. But I don't want to buy into the Democratic pitch that this is all about one person ? Osama bin Laden ? because after we get him, there's going to be another and another," Romney said.

Romney was critical of then-candidate Obama's vow to strike al-Qaida targets inside Pakistan if necessary. Obama said at the time that he would be willing to launch military strikes inside Pakistan with or without the government's approval.

Ultimately, that's exactly what Obama did to get bin Laden. The decision outraged Pakistan's U.S.-backed civilian government and fanned anti-U.S. sentiment across the country.

Romney and his advisers suggested Monday that the decision to order the raid was an easy one.

"Even Jimmy Carter would have given that order," Romney said Monday following a campaign appearance in New Hampshire.

Romney probably meant that as a jab at the Democratic record on foreign policy generally, but invoking Carter may actually cloud Romney's message.

Carter demonstrated how dangerous and politically perilous such decisions can be when he ordered an attempt to rescue American hostages held in Iran

The 1980 mission ultimately embarrassed the nation, ending with the death of eight servicemen and the loss of several American helicopters. The hostage crisis lasted more than a year and helped deny Carter a second term.If the bin Laden raid had gone similarly awry, Obama would have been badly damaged by a military debacle on top of the country's economic woes.

A spokeswoman for Carter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Yamaha outs RX-V773W, RX-V673 receivers: AirPlay and 4K / 3D passthrough on board

In case those RX receivers we saw last month weren't powerful enough for you, Yamaha's unleashing a couple of new beasts that may just meet all of your home entertainment demands. Similar to its V573 and V473 siblings, the RX-V773WA and RX-V673 are AirPlay-friendly and pack a 4K passthrough feature -- though, these also carry some PT action in 3D. Save for the YWA-10 WiFi adapter and an aluminum front panel on the V773WA, both newcomers are sporting identical traits. Among these are 7.2 channel audio, an enhanced YPAO calibration system, seven "intelligent" assignable amplifiers, six HDMI ports on each unit and an ECO mode to help reduce power usage. As far as pricing, you'll have to shell out $849.95 for the higher-end RX-V773WA and $649.95 for the RX-V673 when they hit shelves in June and later this month, respectively.

Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing Preview | Gamezebo

Updated Apr 30, 2012, 7:39am

Social games let you farm online, run stores online, play sports online, and even sing online, but is it possible to dance online? As it so happens, yes. Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing is a free-to-play browser-based social game that lets you glide across the dance floor with angelic grace, even if you?re about as smooth as a three-legged tomcat in real life.

Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing is, of course, based off the enormously popular ?Dancing With the Stars? reality television series, which began its life as the UK?s ?Strictly Come Dancing? in 2004. The show?s well-known dance-off format has since been sold to over 38 countries worldwide, prompting the Guinness Book of World Records to declare it the most successful television format in its 2010 edition. It?s no surprise that BBC Worldwide partnered with ABC to marry the property with another behemoth: social gaming.

?We think that [Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing] is perfect for people who watch the show,? says Robert Nashak, BBC Worldwide?s Executive Vice President of Digital Entertainment. ?The female casual game market is booming, and the dancing, stars, and music really appeals to the shows? fans and the average casual gamer.?

 Keep Dancing

Come Dancing

Of course, Nashak stresses, Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing is a game for everyone. It?s designed to be a ?premium social experience,? which is evident in the game?s smooth graphics (which were motion-captured with the assistance of the show?s stars) and popular music. You can set your routines to Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, KC and the Sunshine Band, and other tunes that make Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing an authentic experience. There?s no cheap knock-off music here.

The game?s interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, especially for players who are already familiar with online social games. You begin by designing your own avatar, including gender, costumes, skin tone, facial features, the works.

You then choose your dancing partner, and you?ll see a few familiar faces during the selection process. Think you can keep up with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Derek Hough, Kym Johnson, and Mark Ballas?

Then you and your partner hustle to the studio, where you learn the basics of the game. You practice a number of moves, including cartwheels, jitterbug whips, and everything else that?s necessary to turn you and your partner into the Lords of the Dance.

Practicing moves requires Energy (represented in classic social game fashion by a lightning bolt icon), and a move must be practiced several times before it?s finally Mastered. But once a move is Mastered, it can be placed in a routine and launched at your competitors.

At first, your partner builds the routines that are utilized on the dance floor. Once you hit level 8, however, you unlock the ability to choreograph your own routines. Dance for your life!

 Keep Dancing

Up on the Stage

Practicing a routine is only half the battle. Before showtime, you also need to set the mood and lighting for your performance. Ideally, you want to put together a performance that blends visuals, movement, and music into a smooth delight that goes down easy.

Once you?re on the stage, you?re judged in several categories. The mastery of your routine is ranked, and you?re also assessed on how well you nailed the competition. ?Nailing the competition? involves clicking on the dancers at the right moments during the routine in order to spiff things up. You also need to click on the stage?s lighting at key points to give your routine the perfect tone.

When it?s all over, you?re supplied with your score, as well as coins and experience. Leveling up unlocks new in-game content.

 Keep Dancing

Dancing With Friends

Dancing alone is a melancholy experience, which is why BBC Worldwide built Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing around a social platform. The game runs on its own site, but it can be accessed via Facebook.

In its current state, Keep Dancing is the ideal community hub for fans of ?Dancing With the Stars? to meet new friends, bond with current friends over a shared interest, or simply hang out. Moreover, BBC Worldwide has big plans for future social content, including the ability to send gifts and invite friends to vote on your routines.

Like most free-to-play games, Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing gives you the option to do a little shopping at the in-game store via microtransactions. Current available purchases include more Energy (since practicing routines eats it up?hey, try dancing for five straight hours and see how energetic you feel at the end of it all), and alternate costumes.

 Keep Dancing

It?s Only Natural

Between its authentic costumes, celebrity partners, motion-captured graphics, and familiar music, BBC Worldwide worked hard to make Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing a genuine experience for the show?s biggest fans. Why not do some dancing via your web browser this Spring? You?ve already raised cows and lorded over cities: it?ll do you some good to try something different.

Dow, S&P 500 slip as Spain enters recession

NEW YORK (AP) ? News that Spain had entered another recession renewed worries about the fragility of Europe's finances Monday and nudged stocks lower. The market ended its first losing month this year.

Disappointing economic reports and weak corporate earnings also weighed on stocks. The Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 5.45 points to close at 1,397.91. For April, it was down 0.8 percent, its first month in the red since November.

The Spanish government said that the country's economy shrank in the first three months of the year, the second straight quarter of contraction.

The worry is that Spain's economy could be too big to rescue. It's twice as big as the combined economies of Greece, Portugal and Ireland, the three countries that have received bailout loans.

In the U.S., a drop in an index of Midwestern manufacturing and a slowdown in consumer spending last month added to worries that the economy is losing steam.

The Institute for Supply Management said its Chicago business barometer fell in April to the lowest level in more than two years. After weak readings for the New York and Philadelphia regions, the market reaction to the Chicago report could have been much worse, said Clark Yingst, chief market analyst at the brokerage Joseph Gunnar.

"It's very bad news in my opinion," Yingst said. "I'd have thought the market would come under more pressure than it has."

Weaker earnings reports from health insurer Humana and the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, NYSE Euronext, also hurt stock indexes.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged down 14.68 points to close at 13,213.63, but narrowly avoided its first monthly loss since September. The Dow finished April up less than two points.

The Nasdaq composite fell 22.84 points to 3,046.36. It posted a monthly loss of 1.5 percent.

Growing concerns about Spain knocked European markets lower on Monday. Spain's main stock index, the IBEX 35, sank 1.9 percent. France's CAC-40 lost 1.6 percent.

The dollar and U.S. Treasury prices edged up as investors parked money in low-risk assets.

Ratings agency Standard & Poor's downgraded Spain's government debt to just three notches above junk Friday. On Monday S&P lowered its rating for 11 Spanish banks, which are loaded with bad debt from a collapsed housing market.

Among stocks making big moves:

? Barnes & Noble jumped 52 percent after Microsoft announced that it would invest $300 million to help Barnes & Noble compete with Amazon.com. The companies will create a subsidiary for Barnes & Noble's e-book and college textbook businesses. Microsoft also plans an application for Nook, Barnes & Noble's e-reader, on its Windows 8 tablets, which come out this fall. Microsoft's stock was flat.

? Health insurer Humana fell 8 percent to after reporting a large drop in first-quarter profit as the company paid more in claims. The results fell short of Wall Street's expectations.

? NYSE Euronext, owner of the New York Stock Exchange, lost 5 percent after reporting that its income plunged in the first three months of the year. Revenue from its trading business was weak, and the company abandoned a merger with the European exchange operator Deutsche Boerse.

? Sunoco jumped 20 percent, the most of any stock in the S&P 500. The fuel-refining company agreed to be bought by Energy Transfer Partners, an operator of natural gas pipelines, for $5.3 billion.
